Platige Image, a BAFTA-winning production and postproduction studio, is building a team in Montreal. Bartek Kujbida will head the studio and be responsible for growing the animation team and expanding the company’s operations in the Canadian market.
Bartek Kujbida is an Animation Supervisor with nearly two decades of experience on Hollywood blockbusters, TV series, and AAA video game titles. He’s overseen animation teams on productions such as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and most recently, has been responsible for work on Season 2 of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. As Head of Studio with Platige Image, Bartek will lead the Canadian team and work with the Warsaw headquarters to deliver exceptional results.
“Establishing a presence in Canada and entrusting the leadership of our satellite team to such an experienced and acclaimed figure in the industry is another big step for the Platige Image Group. For years, Montreal has been home to some of the biggest animation studios in the world. Now, Platige will be joining their ranks,” says Karol Żbikowski, CEO of Platige Image, adding: “Our presence in Canada will offer us a better chance at securing VFX projects in the North American market.”
Platige Image has been a leader among Polish production and postproduction studios for the past twenty-five years. Specializing in computer graphics, 3D animation, and VFX work for film, entertainment, and advertising, the studio has also branched out into live broadcast design and virtual studio graphics using Vizrt technology. Its work has brought it a number of prizes and honors, including a BAFTA Award, a European Film Award, a Goya Award, and a SIGGRAPH Award, alongside nominations for Academy Awards, the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
In February 2022, the Platige Image Group established an LCC company in the US. Headed by Aurélien Simon, the branch has been tasked with acquiring and producing projects in the advertising market. Implementing its growth strategy, in May 2023, Platige opened the biggest motion capture studio in its part of Europe. Epic Games, meanwhile, named the studio an Unreal Engine Authorized Service Partner. Platige also made inroads into the research and development field: in mid-2023, the company partnered with Poland’s National Center for Research and Development to develop AI applications in the creative industries.
Bartek started his career at Rainmaker in Vancouver in 2005 and later moved to Montreal, where he joined MPC Montreal. This step allowed him to move into leadership roles in films like Underwater and Dolittle. Once DNEG Montreal opened, he expanded his leadership talents by taking on bigger projects and leading bigger teams in 2018. Supervising teams on iconic projects such as Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, he quickly became involved with influencing and developing better workflows, methodologies, tools, and building better global animation teams for the studio. Bartek is currently responsible for helping Platige Image tap into the North American Animation talent pool by building a new animation team in Montreal, Canada, while at the same time raising the quality of animation at Platige on every project.
