Celebrating Australian and New Zealand Photographers
SYDNEY, 27 SEPTEMBER 2024: Sony has announced the winners of the ninth annual Sony Alpha Awards, recognising Australian and New Zealand photographers from amateur to professional and the stunning imagery they captured on Sony Alpha cameras and lenses. The Alpha Awards aspire to drive creativity, reward professionals and enthusiasts alike and showcase the greatest photography work.
In 2024 over 2,600 stunning images were submitted by professional and amateur photographers, for the chance to be recognised for their talents.
$54,000 worth of Sony camera gear has been awarded at the 2024 Alpha Awards – including $4,000 of Sony digital imaging gear per category with the Grand Prize Winner, Ben Sowry taking away $10,000 worth of Sony camera gear.
Jun Yoon, Head of Sony Digital Imaging ANZ commented, “Our community of Sony photographers across Australia and New Zealand continue to wow us with their creativity and skills as we celebrate the winners of our ninth annual Alpha Awards in 2024. It is always so enjoyable to recognise excellence in imagery through this competition, and this year has a special extra touch, as we award the winners inside the iconic White Bay Power Station in Sydney. We are lucky enough to be hosting a takeover of this incredibly unique location so that we can also celebrate our Sony filmmaking community (the following evening), as we announce the winners of our Catchlight Film Festival. To top it off, we will also have our inaugural open-to-the-public Tradeshow for our community to enjoy workshops and panel talks from over 30 creators, and get hands-on with products at live demonstrations and experiences.”
The winners were announced on Friday 27 September 2024 to kick off the inaugural Scene Tradeshow event held in Sydney. This ticketed event takes place over two days where attendees have the opportunity to get hands on with the latest Sony cameras, lenses and accessories. Taking place on the Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 of September at the White Bay Power Station in Rozelle, Sydney attendees will be inspired by industry experts through a curated selection of talks, panels and masterclasses. On display at the Scene Tradeshow will be a printed artist gallery of all finalists in the 2024 Alpha Awards, and a screening of the shortlisted films for Sony’s short film competition, Catchlight Film Festival. Sony’s Scene Tradeshow is a photography, film making and content creators expo event and is not one to miss. https://sony.com.au/scene-tradeshow
